Voltage regulation

Voltage regulation is the practice of keeping voltage levels within an acceptable range as electricity moves through the grid, since voltage naturally fluctuates with changes in load and generation, and equipment can be damaged or fail to work correctly if voltage drifts too far outside its intended range. Transformers and other grid equipment are used to actively adjust voltage to keep it within acceptable bounds.
