Energy conversion efficiency
Energy conversion efficiency is the proportion of input energy that a system successfully converts into useful output energy, with the rest typically lost as waste heat. No real-world energy conversion process is 100% efficient; the specific efficiency figure varies widely by technology (a modern natural gas power plant, for example, is substantially more efficient at converting fuel to electricity than an older coal plant).
